Hypnotherapy in Helsinki - The hypnotic state is a state of mental and physical relaxation
Hypnotherapy is a gentle and effective treatment for many human challenges. It can help with sleep difficulties, phobias, performance anxiety, anxiety, trauma, depression, burnout, stress, as well as physical symptoms.
For your first session, we offer a free introductory meeting online, which does not commit you to starting therapy. During the introductory meeting, you will have the opportunity to get to know the therapist and their approach to work. The meeting will review your situation, and the therapist will explain their methods.
The therapy uses hypnosis, which naturally produces pleasure and relieves stress

What is hypnotherapy?
In hypnotherapy, we use hypnosis — a naturally pleasant, calming state that reduces stress and supports deep relaxation. A hypnotic state is a familiar mind‑body experience, where awareness narrows and the nervous system settles. Focus settles in. Its depth can vary from light and subtle to deep, depending on the individual.
Hypnosis itself is a guided process in which the therapist helps you enter this state, and you choose to move towards the pleasant hypnotic state. Hypnosis is a cooperative interaction built on trust, readiness, and a shared intention toward your personal goals.
In hypnotherapy, the aim is not necessarily to reach a deep trance, but rather to create a state of good receptivity to suggestions, insight, and active therapeutic work aligned with your goals. We always discuss your desired outcomes and the direction of the therapy. I use different techniques depending on your needs.
Hypnotherapy is a complementary form of care. It does not replace medical treatment and is not suitable for individuals experiencing acute psychosis or schizophrenia.

What is done in Hypnotherapy?
During the first session, we take time to get to know each other through conversation. We explore your life situation, what feels important right now, and the changes you hope to experience. You will also have the opportunity to try hypnosis, gently and at your own pace.
In the following sessions, we deepen the work by exploring the emotions, thoughts, and patterns that surface, and we focus together on strengthening the goals you have set for yourself. Each session is a collaborative process shaped by your needs and what feels most supportive for you.
We always begin with a long session (90 minutes). After that, you may book either short (50 min) or long (90 min) sessions, depending on what suits you best.

No, you cannot. During hypnosis, you remain in full control of yourself and will not do or say anything that goes against your own values. Although this often happens in movies or books, it’s important to remember that those portrayals are fiction and meant for entertainment.
-
No, you cannot. Hypnosis is a completely natural state that you actually enter several times a day.
If, for example, you were to fall asleep during the session, or if a remote connection were interrupted, you would wake up naturally. In hypnosis, a certain level of awareness is maintained, and you can open your eyes and return to your normal waking state at any time if you wish.
I remember very little from my childhood, less than my siblings. Can hypnosis help recover memories?
Memories can be recalled during hypnosis, but they are not necessarily accurate.
Memories are always reshaped when we recall them. It is very common for people to remember the same events differently — memory is not a perfect recording, but rather something that is reconstructed and reshaped over time.
-
Addressing a fear of flying through hypnosis is very common. The results in treating fear of flying and other phobias are generally quite positive and encouraging.
Most people come to relate to flying in a neutral and ordinary way after working on the issue — they may not be thrilled at the idea of getting on a plane, but they also no longer let it prevent them from flying.
-
Hypnotherapy has proven to be a practical and effective method for overcoming various addictions. However, the key factor is whether your partner truly wants to overcome their gambling addiction.
Treatment that is done merely to please someone else is often not effective — your partner needs to genuinely want to change themselves.
-
The number of hypnotherapy or mental coaching sessions always depends on the individual case.
In general, the number of sessions is influenced by the nature of the issue being addressed, how long it has lasted, how much it interferes with daily life, and the person’s responsiveness. The number of sessions is agreed upon together with a responsible hypnotherapist.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) significantly affects my daily life. Can it be addressed with hypnosis?
In treatment guidelines, hypnotherapy is mentioned as one option for managing IBS. Hypnotherapy can help relieve symptoms and calm the condition. It can influence mental imagery, and the mind has a strong capacity for change.
Hypnotherapy may also help improve one’s attitude toward the condition, and through self-hypnosis, people can learn to manage their symptoms. However, the cause of gastrointestinal issues should always be medically evaluated as well.

When conducted by a professional, hypnotherapy is a completely safe and gentle form of treatment.

Due to its relaxing nature, hypnotherapy is suitable for almost everyone. However, contraindications include psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In hypnotherapy, the goal is to enhance the client’s sense of control over their own emotions and experiences — not to diminish it.
-
Hypnotherapy is a genuinely effective form of treatment. Brain imaging studies show that hypnosis has measurable effects on the brain.
There is also research-based evidence supporting the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy in clinical practice. According to these studies, hypnosis has been found to be effective in treating conditions such as pain, PTSD, insomnia, depression, overweight, and psychosomatic disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Hypnosis is also included in clinical treatment guidelines for IBS.
-
Yes, it can. Combining hypnosis with cognitive psychotherapy has been found to be more effective than cognitive psychotherapy alone, for example in the treatment of depression.
-
Hypnotherapy can help reshape the emotional experiences connected to past events, create a new sense of safety, and enable viewing situations from a different perspective.
A meta-analysis of six studies showed significant improvement in symptoms caused by post-traumatic stress. Regardless of the nature of the trauma, the symptoms decreased notably (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10615-021-00816-w).

No one is forced into hypnosis during a hypnotherapy session. A person who comes to hypnotherapy is, by default, willing to be guided into a hypnotic state.
Hypnosis is a natural state that we enter several times a day anyway. For example, this happens at least in the morning right after waking up and in the evening just before falling asleep. There is therefore no need to be afraid of it.
-
Memory is not a perfect recording. Most of what is gone through in hypnotherapy is usually remembered and becomes subject to normal reshaping in our minds.
However, sometimes the state of consciousness may deepen to the point where not everything that happened during hypnotherapy is remembered. This is not dangerous and does not cause any harm. In some cases, certain troubling thoughts or harmful habits may even be intentionally forgotten after hypnotherapy.
